3DS – In depth look at Mario Kart 7

> For those thinking about buying a Nintendo 3DS but are waiting for that one killer game that would justify the purchase should keep an eye on Mario Kart 7.  This highly respected Nintendo franchise is making it’s debut on the 3D portable system with a wealth of new and interesting features. But is it enough to warrant a buy? In short, YES!!!

> Shy guy makes a return!!! Hopefully he’ll be playable on single and online multiplayer modes.

> Over the years Mario Kart has always been catered as a bridge game by gradually adding casual elements and annoying power-ups like the infamous blue shell. Ever since the launch of the 3DS system Nintendo has shifted it’s ideologies and is pushing the 3DS hardware towards the almost forgotten hardcore crowd (Street Fighter 4, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil, etc.). With a new focus to rekindle it’s long term fans Mario kart 7 has seen some significant changes by eliminating some of the casual elements that have haunted the series.

> Underwater segments are seen throughout the courses.

> The race tracks seen through out the lifespan of the series is easily one of the highlights to what makes the games so charming and attractive to avid and new gamers. MK7 will come packed with a series standard of 16 new tracks and 16 classic tracks. The new courses will take full advantage of the titles biggest hook: triathlon races (ground, air, underwater). Your vehicle will occasionally pop out a glider or a propeller to get through the race. Also, players are given the ability to customize their karts to fit there style. Similar to what has been seen in the Sega Rally series players will only get a handful of parts to streamline customization.

> Metal Mario is one of the newer racers to join the kart mayhem.

> Nintendo’s Hideki Konno has announced some killer new power-up items that should please fanboys. For starters the fireflower finally makes it’s debut to the kart series by allowing players to hurl fireballs. Also, the raccoon tail from Super Mario Bros. 3 allows players to swing their tail around the kart to knockout other karts or to disarm shells.

> Who would have known karts can grow raccoon tails?

> But of course the name of the game is how good will online gaming be for this title? Everything is indicating a solid and killer online experience. Though very similar with the wii version there are some small and noticeable difference. For starters Nintendo place the limit of 8 karts per match and they dropped the “regional matches” with general worldwide matches. Yet, the only biggest addition to multiplayer is community play. Think of it as a clan system where your friends can jump in and have private tournament matches.

> Overall a welcomed addition to the limited 3DS library!!!
